Information on Bay State Gas Debt forgiveness

This new program from Bay State Gas will help people who are behind on paying their heating and gas bills. The program provides qualified customers with assistance in budgeting for their current monthly natural gas bills that they need to pay every month, while at the same time the debt forgiveness program will also forgive a portion of past-due balances each and every month.

Customers who sign up and are accepted into Bay State's balance forgiveness program are provided with a monthly budget amount that will be based on their individual usage and financial means. This will help them better plan for and pay their current gas bills.

After the customer is enrolled into the program, the gas company will then forgive one-12th of the past-due balance each and every month on any bills that have not already been paid. People can have up to $3,600 in unpaid debt or bills eliminated per year. This will occur as long as the customer continues to pay the budget amount on time.

In addition, any Fuel Assistance grants that the customer is eligible for are also factored into the budget amount. This will help to lower the budget payment that is required to the lowest possible amount. Another component of the program is enhanced energy efficiency. This aspect of the program will help to lower future gas and heating bills, and this energy efficiency service is also available for customers who qualify for fuel assistance.

In order to take advantage of the debt forgiveness program, current Bay State customers must first qualify for the company’s residential assistance rate. If you are interested in more information or applying for help, you should speak with one of Bay State’s specially trained call center representatives by calling 1-800-688-6160.
